Ascentra’s Matthew De Bisschop Named Iowa Credit Union League Champion of the Year

October 4, 2024

BETTENDORF, IOWA – The Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL) named Ascentra’s Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Government Affairs, Matthew De Bisschop, their Champion of the Year to celebrate his dedication to credit union advocacy and the significant contributions he has made to the Iowa credit union movement.

As a member of the ICUL Champion program, Matthew serves alongside other credit union employees in Iowa who look to Matthew as a mentor in the credit union advocacy movement. In addition, he is also a member of the ICUL Advocacy Committee. This committee provides direction on the legislative priorities while continuing to strengthen relationships with local legislators across the state of Iowa.

“Advocacy is an integral part of our ability to serve members at the highest and most impactful level, as at times, the credit union movement encounters opposition from banks when we introduce legislation that would ultimately improve the financial lives of Iowans,” said Linda Andry, President and CEO, Ascentra Credit Union. “Matthew does an excellent job of keeping all of us informed, engaged and ready to act when needed. His role in governmental affairs and maintaining solid relationships with our legislators, will give Iowa credit unions a voice when most needed.”

During Matthew’s tenure at Ascentra, he has been a strong advocate for the credit union, continually researching and bringing best practices to recruitment efforts and talent retention through well thought out compensation packages, benefits packages and personnel policies. His connections in the industry are invaluable giving us insight on ways the credit union could improve benefits for Ascentra’s staff.

“It’s very humbling to be recognized by my advocacy peers,” said Matthew. “Fighting for equal access to financial products and services for all Iowans is deeply rewarding.

Matthew was named ICUL’s Champion of the Year during the 2024 ICUL Annual Meeting, held September 19 in Des Moines, Iowa.
