Community 1st Credit Union Takes A Day to Give Back to the Osceola Community

Ottumwa, IA – Community 1st Credit Union’s 6th Annual Community Day, held on Indigenous Peoples Day formerly known as Columbus Day, put more than 200 employees in Osceola where they volunteered at local organizations, including the Clarke County Historical Society and Museum, Clarke County Conservation Center, Osceola Public Library, and the Clarke County Fairgrounds & Event Center.
“When we say we’re all about people helping people and being connected to our communities, we back it up with projects like this,” said C1st president and CEO Greg Hanshaw. “The day really exceeded our expectations in terms of employee camaraderie and appreciation from the Osceola community.”
The event culminated with a company-wide lunch and training at Clarke County Fairgrounds, featuring James Mayhew, an interactive and motivational speaker who focused on unique talents and personalities in the workplace, culture, diversity, and core values.
At the Clarke County Fairgrounds; roughly 75 C1st employees cleaned up and built a retaining wall around the playground area, painted the arena, and did landscaping and mulch work around the Events Center building.
At the Clarke County Historical Society and Museum; around 50 C1st employees moved and organized exhibits, cleaned the one room school house, trimmed trees and bushes, and raked leaves.
At the East Lake Park/Conservation Center; another group of around 75 C1st employees worked together and planted trees throughout the grounds, cleaned and trimmed up old trees and bushes, as well as cleaned playground equipment and park facilities.
At the Osceola Public Library, 15 C1st employees helped staff deep clean the interior of the building and organize books on both the upper and lower levels.
“Together, our C1st employees donated hundreds of volunteer hours to these organizations within the Osceola community,” said Amanda Prevo, C1st Marketing Specialist and Ambassador. “As our core values state, we’re a strong and empowered team and stay connected to our communities.”
