Iowa Credit Union Foundation Celebrates 30 Years of Helping Iowans

January 22, 2025

IOWA - For the past 30 years, the Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) has worked to champion financial well-being for all Iowans. Since its founding in 1995 to aid in flood recovery efforts, ICUF has dedicated more than $4.8 million in programs, initiatives and grants throughout Iowa communities.

“In 30 years of service, we’ve seen ICUF’s work help individuals achieve financial independence, foster community growth and enhance financial education across Iowa,” said ICUF Executive Director Ena Babic Barnes “None of this would have been achievable without the generous contributions of Iowa credit unions, donors and partners who believe in our vision of a more secure financial future for everyone.”

Over the past three decades, ICUF has made substantial progress in positively impacting communities across Iowa:

  • 1,200+ credit union members received more than $2.3 million in matched savings to support their financial independence and empowerment.
  • Credit union members were awarded more than $271,000 in college scholarships to further their education.
  • ICUF has invested in more than $259,000 in financial education initiatives.
  • Community organizations have received more than $261,000 to support financial well-being and financial inclusion initiatives.
  • In its sixth year, ICUF’s ‘People Helping People’ Financial Coach Training program has trained 250 coaches in 42 credit unions across Iowa.

ICUF kicked off 2025 with a record-breaking $145,900 in donations received from credit unions and remains committed to driving positive change across Iowa as the hub for credit union philanthropy.

ICUF also welcomed new members to itsBoard of Directors. Lindsey Ramos, Senior Vice President Member Experience of I.H. Mississippi Valley Credit Union, and Traci Stiles, Executive Vice President of Des Moines Metro Credit Union, will each serve three-year terms on the ICUF board.

"As we celebrate this milestone," said Barnes, “we look forward to continuing to strategically support the financial well-being of Iowans and promote financial independence, empowerment and financial literacy.”
