Iowa Credit Union Foundation Receives $240,150 in Charitable Donations

February 1, 2022

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF), the philanthropic arm of the Iowa Credit Union League, received more than $240,000 in year-end charitable donations to jumpstart its 2022 work.

The largest donation came from Affiliates Management Company (AMC) and its family of companies, including Coopera, the Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL), PolicyWorks, ViClarity and First Community Trust, N.A., who collectively donated $117,150 to ICUF.

In addition to this, Iowa credit unions from across the state collectively donated over $123,000 in year-end gifts to ICUF.

“The Foundation is incredibly thankful for the continued support as we enter into 2022,” said Ann McMillian, ICUF Board Chair. “These donations will allow the Iowa Credit Union Foundation to do more to serve families and individuals in Iowa, and to grow its impact by investing more into grants, programs and initiatives that align with our mission to champion financial well-being for all.”

For more than 25 years, the ICUF has been at the heart of Iowa credit union philanthropy through programs and investments that have allowed Iowans to gain access to needed financial services and connect with a credit union. The organization’s mission is put into action through collaboration with community organizations, advocacy on financial well-being issues, providing education on financial topics and resources, and investing in scholarships, grants and programs that help support and advance work in Iowa.

Since inception, ICUF has distributed more than $2 million in asset building programs, $1.4 million in disaster grant assistance and $590,000 in scholarships and training for credit unions and their members. For 2022, ICUF remains committed to serving underserved communities in the state and will continue to find opportunities to shape communities in the coming year.

“ICUF has been known as a connector of Iowa credit unions and communities,” said Ena Babic Barnes, ICUF Executive Director. “As we look to the year ahead, we will continue that important work, but our plans and actions will take on an additional lens of financial inclusion. The issues of racial equity, growing empathy and reaching underserved communities are all areas we believe ICUF can be impactful.”
