Linn Area Credit Union to Change Name to Corda Credit Union

February 28, 2024

Corda Credit UnionCEDAR RAPIDS, IA, February 28, 2024 – Linn Area Credit Union will change its name to Corda Credit Union on May 6, 2024.

“‘Corda’ is the Latin word for hearts,” said Paula O’Rourke, President and CEO of Linn Area Credit Union. “It’s fitting for a credit union that wears its heart on rolled-up sleeves, as we strive every day to serve our members and communities with both compassion and expertise. We invest our heart into everything we do.”

Over the years, being known as Linn Area Credit Union has created misperceptions about membership eligibility. The credit union’s current membership charter encompasses anyone who lives or works in these 22 Iowa counties: Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Cedar, Clayton, Clinton, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Iowa, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Linn, Louisa, Muscatine, Poweshiek, Scott, Tama or Washington. It also includes anyone related to a member.

“Not everyone in our current membership lives or works in Linn County,” said O’Rourke, “and the term ‘Linn Area’ doesn’t have relevancy to all of our members.”

As a result, Linn Area Credit Union’s Board of Directors and the management team made a unanimous decision in October 2021 to begin the process of formally changing the credit union’s name. After many months of working under the guidance of an experienced and respected branding firm, the new name was unanimously approved in April 2023, and the transition to Corda Credit Union was set for the spring of 2024.

“We remain the same member-owned financial co-op, deeply committed to serving our members and communities,” said O’Rourke, “and as of May 6, we’ll be Corda Credit Union.”
