Midland Credit Union Invests $1 Million to Support Affordable Housing in Greater Omaha and Council Bluffs

October 21, 2024

Des Moines, IA – The Board of Directors of Midland Credit Union has approved a $1 million investment to help lower-income families in the Omaha and Council Bluffs areas become homeowners. In partnership with the Omaha and Council Bluffs chapters of Habitat for Humanity, Midland Credit Union will contribute $250,000 annually over the next four years to support the construction of new homes for qualified families.
This investment will be part of a broader pool of funds collected by Habitat for Humanity from various financial institutions in the region, all aimed at providing affordable, quality housing to families earning below median income levels.

“Investing in the success of our communities is core to our mission,” said Randy Hass, CEO of Midland Credit Union. “During our merger discussions last year with the former United Credit Union, we committed to deepening our involvement in the local community. By partnering with Habitat for Humanity, Midland Credit Union can address the critical need of affordable housing and help qualified families achieve the dream of homeownership. We are proud to be part of this important initiative supporting the well-being and growth of our communities.”

"It only took one meeting with Randy and the Midland Credit Union team to understand their commitment to this community,” said Blake Johnson, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs. “Directly pledging their resources to invest in affordable housing proves that Midland believes in this mission and its role to make our metro stronger. With this partnership, Habitat for Humanity will build more homes and change more lives through homeownership."
