Veridian to Host Free Community Shred Day Events Across Iowa, Omaha in September

September 11, 2024

WATERLOO, Iowa (September 4, 2024) – Veridian Credit Union will wrap up its schedule of 2024 Community Shred Day events in the coming weeks, hosting mobile shred trucks across Iowa and in Omaha. Each event is free and open to the public to promote the importance of shredding unwanted, sensitive documents in protecting your identity from fraud.

“This is Veridian’s 16th year hosting Community Shred Day events to remind our communities about the importance of shredding unwanted, sensitive documents,” said Ashtin Hotek, Veridian’s public relations strategist and Community Shred Day coordinator. "The events are always well-attended, and we're happy to see so many people take advantage of this free, easy opportunity to protect their identities from theft."

Attendees are asked to arrive with documents in the cargo area of their vehicle and to remain in their vehicle while event staff unload it and place it in shred bins. To ensure capacity for all who would like to attend, each event can accept no more than two 25-pound containers of documents per person.

The shredded material will be recycled into commercial grade paper towels, toilet paper and other paper products. Since Veridian’s first Community Shred Day in 2009, the events have shredded an estimated 1.3 million pounds of documents. That equates to approximately 11,744 trees and 2,081 cubic yards of landfill space saved. More tips on how to prepare for Community Shred Day and other shredding opportunities are available at veridiancu.org/shred.
