Affinity Credit Union Named 2023 NAFCU National Credit Union of the Year

September 18, 2023 — Affinity Credit Union ($145M, Des Moines, IA) has been selected as Credit Union of the Year by the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU). Affinity was honored during NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus in Washington, D.C., Sept. 10-13. 

"This is truly a team award that can only be achieved when a small group of people are determined to perform incredible work," said Affinity Credit Union CEO Jim Dean. “We are honored to be named Credit Union of the Year and our goal is to continue to live up to such distinguished recognition.”

“The 2023 award winners are dedicated stewards of the credit union mission and NAFCU is honored to recognize them for their exceptional representation of the industry,” said NAFCU Awards Committee Chair Eli Vazquez, CEO of Bank-Fund Staff Federal Credit Union. “Over the past year, they went above and beyond for their members and have had a remarkable impact on their communities. The NAFCU Awards Committee is proud of their contributions to the success and strength of the industry.”

This year’s NAFCU Annual Awards Competition honored eight winners in total and was selected by a committee of credit union leaders. Nominees for CEO of the Year, Credit Union of the Year, Professional of the Year and Volunteer of the Year were judged in two categories: credit unions with assets of more than $500 million and those with assets of $500 million or less. Affinity was a winner among credit unions with $500 million or less in assets.

In addition to being formally recognized during Caucus, Annual Awards Competition winners will also be profiled in the September-October edition of The NAFCU Journal magazine.
